GUS WORLAND

Mental Fitness Campaigner & Media Personality | One of the world’s most compelling voices on human connection.

Much loved Australian media identity, Gus Worland is a passionate advocate for building the
mental fitness of all Australians.  Gus Worland wants all Australians to have their Gotcha4Life mate.

Gus founded Gotcha4Life in 2017, following the success of the ABC series Man Up and losing a very close friend and life mentor to suicide, as he realised he had the ability and networks to make a real difference.

Gus wants to get to the bottom of the suicide crisis, effect real social change and hopefully save lives. He wants to raise awareness about the multifaceted health benefits associated with having a close mate, and reduce the alarming statistics on suicide across Australia and world. Gus aims to empower men and women with positive strategies to seek support and social connectedness.

In recognition for his service to building mental fitness, Gus was a state finalist for the Australian of the Year in 2023.

Over 20 years in Australian media. A TED Main Stage. Millions of people reached. And one message the world is ready for.
Gus Worland has spent his career at the centre of Australian life – host of Triple M’s The Grill Team and The Rush Hour, and a familiar face on Channel Nine across Today, Weekend Today and Sports Sunday.

He sat across from prime ministers, world-class athletes and everyday Australians, and discovered that the most powerful thing he could do in any conversation was create the conditions for honesty – a connection that most people didn’t know they were ready for.

When he lost his closest friend and mentor Angus Roberts, it stopped him in his tracks and set him on a completely different path. Today he works with leaders and teams across the world, helping them build the kind of genuine human connections that drive performance, wellbeing and lasting change. Everything comes back to one simple thing he knows to be true: that none of us should have to face our hardest moments alone.

The Mission |  His mission is simple. Connection saves lives. And none of us should have to face our hardest moments alone.

Losing Angus didn’t just change Gus – it moved him to act. He co-founded Gotcha4Life, a mental fitness foundation now recognised nationally and internationally for its work building emotional strength in communities. He presented Man Up, a landmark ABC documentary that became a watershed moment in how Australia talks about masculinity and mental health.

He took The Aussie Goes across England, India and the Caribbean and found the same thing everywhere he went. That underneath the noise, the bravado, the busyness – people are carrying things alone that they don’t need to carry alone.

That discovery became his mission. Connection isn’t complicated. It doesn’t require a programme or a process. It starts with one honest conversation, one person deciding to reach out, one simple act that anyone can take today. That conviction led Gus and his partner Vicky to build Don’t Worry Alone – taking everything learned from two decades of real work and making it accessible to everyone. Not just men. Not just people in crisis. Everyone. Because we all worry. And none of us should have to do it alone.

Gus Worland simply does not accept the alarming statistics surrounding suicide in Australia and that eight beautiful people take their life every day. Gotcha4Life believes in the power of prevention through connection and champions the idea of proactively building mental fitness and the resilience required to deal better with the challenges that life throws at us.

To drive real change, Gotcha4Life funds educational workshops and innovative training programs throughout Australia that build mental fitness in individuals, organisations and communities to activate strong, open and binding relationships.

KEYNOTE TOPICS

Connected Leadership

The best leaders don’t just perform. They connect. And that one shift changes everything.

The best leaders go first. They share their own struggles. They say what they mean. They work the hardest. They serve to help others rise. Built specifically for leaders and teams — nine beliefs that define what connected leadership actually looks like in practice. Earned through real experience, not a classroom.

The Power of Connection

Connection isn’t a nice-to-have. It is the foundation of every high-performing team and every life well lived.

Asking for help is not weakness. It is the bravest thing you can do. This is about understanding why connection changes everything — not as a theory but as something Gus has witnessed and lived across communities, organisations and thousands of honest conversations. And what one simple act today can set in motion.
